I thought it would be fun to share tips and techniques with my blog readers...so here we go...My first tip for you to try.
The below image of my son Austin was shot in my garage...NOT on a white background like it appears but standing at in the garage with his back to the driveway behind him and his face turned looking into the garage. I exposed for his face and shot away. The resulting photograph looks the way it does because it was so bright outside that the background got "blown out" making it appear as if it was a bright white background.
How to do this:
-place your subject in the "shade" of the garage with their back to the doorway (you could also use a large window or doorway inside your home)
-set your camera exposure for the subject's face
-make sure that the background is about 5 stops brighter (mine was 6) than the subject
-shoot away
my exposures were:
iso 400, f 6.3, 1/80th sec (as you can see I only changed the f-stop to get the exposure for outside)

Below is a shot of what the background looked like, looking out from where I shot his picture from inside the garage.
iso 400, f 13, 1/80th sec

I sure hope that I was clear with my instruction, I have never done this before:) I really hope this was helpful and that you all will get out an try this sometime...
